Bulls and Flamenco!

Monday, September 13, 2010
This morning we headed into town on foot but the problem with Seville is, that the streets aren’t labelled and nor are they easy to navigate. We wanted to see the bullfighting ring, Maria Luisa park and the site of Expo ’97. So we started off to the bullring and had a tour. Heather being anti-killing of the bulls had a lot of good questions to ask and got them all answered. It didn’t make it better but she was better educated about the whole thing. It was pretty interesting the tradition behind it all. We then grabbed some lunch and headed to the park. It was super hot and I was not feeling so well so we sat in the park for awhile and I put my feet in the cold water hoping to cool myself off. We then had to walk all the way across town to get to the expo grounds. It was also some palace in starwars so it was something Heather really wanted to see. It was agonizing walking in the heat and I was really feeling sick despite the fact that I was drinking lots of water and taking breaks. We did get there eventually though and spent about 40 minutes looking for the place. We could not find the spot and after getting trapped in a gated area and having to crawl through a small hole in the fence, we gave up and headed back to the hostel for happy hour. Can’t turn down cheap Sangria!! We sat in the bar and chatted with a few German guys who were studying in Seville and looking for a place to live. Then this American dude comes over and starts talking to us. He just graduated school and was on an architecture tour of Europe and we were apparently the first people he had conversed with in the past two weeks...not sure how...Anyhow, he asked what we were doing tonight and joined in on our plans. Great! We were fine with it, but as the night proceeded he just got on our nerves more and more. We had paella on the roof of our hostel and then wanted to go to a flamenco show before heading out to a club. We had the paella (again quiet disappointing) and he met us up on the roof and we headed to the flamenco show. It was really neat to see the show. The girl who was dancing was amazing and so was the guitarist and the man who sung. It was really entertaining but by the end we were so annoyed with the American that we decided we would rather go to bed then go out with him to the club. That’s exactly what we ended up doing...going to bed! Hehe! We really didn’t know where we were going to go anyhow and it wasn’t a big deal.
