Lazy Days!

Wednesday, September 15, 2010
So we had only an hour of sleep before we had to check out. It was terrible! It felt like the pink palace check out again. We just shoved things into our bag and hoped that we had everything. We stored our bags for the day since we were in Madrid until 10pm when we had to catch our first night train. There was a free walking tour of Madrid that morning so we decided to give it a go and it was a terrible idea. The guide wasn’t great and it was just super random. It was really difficult to follow what was happening. We were dying as we sobered up and were in the hot sun. The worst 2 hours ever! After we were super hungry and went to get some pizza. We went to this amazing pizzeria and had really, really good pizza. We then went back to the hostel and slept on the couch for a few hours since we had no sleep and no bed to speak of. The German guy and the Brazilian dude were hanging in the common room all day too. I don’t think anyone was feeling great! The Irish boys were nowhere to be seen though so we just assumed they were in their room recovering. That evening while still in the same position on the couch, the Irish boys came through the front door blowing a horn! They had been at the pub all day with the Australian. They invited us down to the cave for some more drinks but we brought our milk and water with us. We ended up having a cooler that the guys bought for us and tried to get us drunk to miss our train and party in Madrid another night. We knew better and stuck to the one drink (which actually made us feel better) and still planned to catch the night train. They were super entertaining though and we chilled in the cave until it was time to go to the train station. We arrived at the train station at a good time, grabbed some snacks and boarded the train. We had only booked reclining seats (cheapest option) and had packed ourselves into these seats with all of our valuables. We had been told to really watch our things in Spain and Portugal and that night trains are the worst for getting things stolen. We secured all of our things and fell asleep within an hour or so of leaving the station. We were due to arrive the next morning at 730 so we just tried to sleep all night long.
