The Hills are Alive

We went into Salzburg today and checked out the old town. Again, not a whole lot to see in Salzburg other than the fact that the Sound of Music was filmed here, so we just wondered around. We were going to inquire about the Sound of Music bus tour so we made our way towards their bus station. Along the way, we stopped at Mirabell Gardens and snapped some photos of us in the same places that were filmed in the Sound of Music. It was interesting to see that the spots were very much the same as they were in the film. Most of the filming was done in Salzburg and only some indoor sets were made in Hollywood. So we made it to the Panorama tours spot and decided to take the 2pm tour. It just so happens that the rain had subsided and would be great weather for a bus tour. So we hopped on the bus and were off. Our tour guide was something else! He had a cheesy sounding voice and sounded like a game show host. It was pretty brutal! The tour was interesting I`d say. The places that they did stop at were nice and we did get to go to the place where they filmed the backyard of the Van Trap house, the gazebo, the main entrance to the house, the tree lined drive, and the wedding chapel. We didn’t get to stop at Nonnberg Abbey but drove by really quickly. It was quite the let down and false advertising. We were taken to some lakes too and it was quite picturesque. Anyhow, it was interesting enough and they did sell beer on the bus so it wasn`t all bad. We had booked at the same time, a tour for the morning to go to Hitler’s Eagle`s Nest in the Bavarian Alps. So we hoped this tour would be better or worthwhile anyhow. So once we returned to the hostel, we had our grocery store supper, some beers and just chilled and watched some football. Again, not an overly exciting evening but we had an early start the next morning.
