Travelling through the countryside

Early morning ferry!! Nickolai came to pick us up (along with Sara and Matt) to take us down to the ferry port. We got all packed up, headed down, checked in, boarded and were sound asleep in no time. We had scored some benches this time and we were excited to be able to sleep better tonight than the last ferry ride. It ended up feeling much longer this time and our sleep wasn’t great but on we go anyhow.

We arrived in Rijeka at 0700 and had to wait until 12 or 1 for the train. We headed to the train station to drop our bags and see if we could reserve the 12 o’clock train so we get into Zagreb at a decent time. So, we did and tried to reserve some night trains from Portugal to Munich so that they don’t book up and we are able to get to Munich for Oktoberfest. For some reason they weren’t able to so we will try in Austria when we get there tomorrow. We booked the noon train and had some time to kill. We first went to the bathroom to change and brush our teeth and on my, worst bathrooms yet. They were holes in the ground with a drain...it smelt terrible and was infested with bugs. So we grabbed a drink at a little cafe and used their facilities. We then went on a mission for a new book and a hat for Heather. We found a book store and got some new reads...although their selection was limited we were able to find something to entertain us for the next little while. We also found a butcher to get some cold cuts and cheese for lunch and Heather a hat. We almost missed our train though because we weren’t paying attention to time. Luckily we made it though! We were on our way to Zagreb again! We got into Zagreb at a decent time, 4ish and we now knew where we were going and how to get around so we showered and did some more booking. We both booked our flights home!!! So I am coming home September 28th and Heather is flying home with her friend Stef on the 6th of October. It seems so soon but we really have a lot of ground to cover in the meantime. So we grabbed a bite to eat and headed to bed. It was going to be another early morning train at 730 and probably a long day.
