Island hopping

Friday, August 6, 2010
We decided that today we were going to go to Lochrum island which is just off the coast of Dubrovnik. It was a quick little ferry ride to the island (15 minutes) and we were there. It is a green island so it’s pretty much just all beaches and there is a salt water lake in the middle of it. The ocean was quite rough at parts and a little risky to swim at so it was nice to have both. On the ferry ride there, we saw our roommates who obviously had the same idea. We ended up losing each other once we got there but Heather and I laid out on the “beach” (huge rocks) and soaked up the sun. There were people cliff jumping into the water, swimming and Lochrum is actually a nude beach but only a few girls actually partook. It was a really nice day on the island. We had packed our lunch and just relaxed in the sun. After awhile we went to go sit in the shade and eventually to the lake. The island was overpopulated with peacocks and they were gorgeous to see. They were being terrorized by all kinds of kids and people wanting them to spread their feathers. Oh well!! We stayed till nearly 630 when the ferry took us back to the old town. We wanted some more seafood so we went to a restaurant recommended by the guidebook for having really good dishes. We got there just in time!! The small patio in the middle of the square had a really long line just shortly after we were seated. We ordered a bottle of wine, some oysters and the mussels each. It was really good! The seafood was fresh and prepared well. Needless to say, we gobbled it up pretty quickly. Heather tried oysters for the first time and wasn’t thrilled (too salty) but was willing to try again (the lemon squeeze helped). After supper, we wandered around the town for awhile, looking in shops and just hanging out. We eventually headed back home and...you guessed it, had some wine on the balcony! Another fabulous day in Dubrovnik! We did however, decide to make friendly with our neighbours above us. A group of Aussie boys!! Our favourite! We sat up on their balcony chatting until late and apparently we were quite noisey because Brigita came and broke up the party. She was not too pleased and had a previous run in with the boys. I guess they came home early (7am) the morning before and were loud and had a complaint. So this was the second time they were getting a noise complaint. We were now associated! If you met Brigita you could imagine that she has a mean streak, for sure!
