Mexican in Budapest

Thursday, July 29, 2010
Woke up this morning, packed our things and were off to the train station. Lydia had a morning train to Vienna so we all headed out together. We stopped at the supermarket and were sure to label our produce this time. Our train was at 11 and was about 6 hours long. So we were prepared for another long day spent on the train. It rained like cats and dogs as soon as we boarded the train (thank goodness) and subsided by the time we arrived. We easily found our way to our hostel in Budapest, again though we were on a different currency. So we grabbed some Hungarian cash and headed to the hostel. We had booked Casa de la musica hostel and it was definitely colourful. The whole place was in bright colours and had a terrace with a bar and swimming pool. Pretty sweet!! So we checked in, great people who work/own the place and we went to our room to get settled. We had previously decided on the train to go to a restaurant recommended by the travel guide that was Mexican. Iguana was what it was called, and it was just a short metro ride away. So we had a pint first on the terrace and then headed for some eats. Iguana was a really cool place! It was pretty traditional Mexican, for Hungary anyhow, and we really enjoyed it. It could have been the Litre of Margaritas that we had too. It was a great start to Hungary and although not overly traditional, we needed a taste of home. We headed back to the hostel afterwards as we had both planned Skype dates with our families. The time change is really killing us. The Skype session didn’t end until about 230am our time. Totally worth it!!
